Alice Noble Ice Arena will stay open--read the details below!
Thanks to the collective voice of the entire community of Northeast Ohio and beyond, and thanks to the continued generosity of the Noble Foundation, we have saved the ice in Wooster, Ohio, at the Alice Noble Ice Arena! We can’t thank all of you enough. Every pledge counted, no matter how big or small. Every conversation was heard. Thanks to you, our story reached countless people in countless places in a short span of time. In less than a month, your efforts not only ensured that we met our fundraising goal, but they made us surpass it!

Your donation can be sent to the PO Box below.  Please make checks payable to “WYHA”.  All donations received will be transferred to the newly formed 501(c)3 once completed:

Next Steps for ANIA:
  • An Executive Committee is being formed which will oversee the operations of the rink, as well as long-term sustainability.
  • An Advisory group is being formed to aid in the above efforts.

So many individuals and families have embodied personal sacrifice in the last month. So many other ice communities have rallied to support us. Now that we have saved ANIA, let’s skate!”

We need your help, and we need it quickly.
On September 24, 2019, the Donald & Alice Noble Foundation, which has been so very generous in financially supporting the ice arena for the past 17 years, made known their plans to turn the ice arena over to the Wooster City Schools.  The school district plans to remove the ice and repurpose the building, which will include a turfed field facility.  In response to the outpouring of dismay at the prospect of closing the rink, however, the Noble Foundation has given us the opportunity to come up with a plan to save the rink.  With $150,000 of pledged donations for the next three years  the Noble Foundation will consider keeping the ice.  We have until by December 1, 2019 to show our commitment.
Losing the Ice Arena would be a huge loss for Wooster, Wayne County, and the surrounding communities.

Alice Noble Ice Arena patrons and enthusiasts received the news they had been hoping for on Thursday. It will remain open.

David Noble, president of the Noble Foundation, said the ice arena will continue to operate for the “foreseeable future,” which he further defined as “the next three years, and I would hope beyond that.”
An extensive fundraising effort and many conversations over the last few months ensued to keep the arena functioning in the face of large deficits in its operation.

In 2002, the Alice Noble Ice Arena was dedicated to our community.  It was a gift from Donald Noble to his wife, Alice, in celebration of their love for ice skating and in remembrance of their first date on January 24, 1934 when Don took Alice ice skating.  Over the last 17 years, the ice arena has been home to Wooster Youth Hockey, College of Wooster Hockey, High School Hockey, Adult League Hockey, the Figure Skating Club, Adaptive Sports programs, Learn-to-Skate programs, public skating sessions, elementary school field trips, birthday parties, a Junior Hockey Oilers team, summer enrichment and after-school child care programs, and more!  Each and every one of these activities brings members of our community together in a safe and happy environment.

The ice arena is well used and well loved by the community… just as Don & Alice Noble hoped it would be!

The lifelong benefits of skating include physical and emotional well-being.  Through skating programs our children learn discipline, respect, team-work, character, and leadership skills.  The rink is a family friendly environment that is open to the whole community.

The Wooster Community and Beyond Rallies To Save Ice Arena     WMFD.com

WOOSTER, OH – The Wooster Community and ice rink fans from all over have rallied to save Alice Noble Ice Arena. After a surprise announcement planning the close of the ice area in September, many were left wondering what would become of the rink - a fixture in the area since its opening in 2002.

Supporters of keeping the arena as an ice rink have a December 1, 2019 deadline to raise pledges of $150,000 for the next three years to show their commitment to keeping the arena. If the supporters come up with the funds on time the Noble Foundation will consider keeping the ice rink. However, in just two weeks’ time, they have raised two-thirds of the funds needed to keep the arena an ice rink.

The effort has been supported by donations/pledges coming from individuals, businesses, other states across the country and even Canada.

Players helping Players

Since opening in 2003, Alice Noble Ice Arena has provided a central location for games featuring teams from Cleveland, including programs many in the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL), against teams from Columbus, Dayton and elsewhere. ANIA has also provided a home for the All-Star Extravaganza, which honors skilled players from all competitive ages and levels every spring. Hockey isn’t solely a local community formed by the boundaries of your local zip code. The entire Central and Northeast Ohio region forms our community. ANIA provides more than just an opportunity for nearly 100 kids to play the game they love and learn from at the youth and high school level. It provides that opportunity to kids from so many other programs. To make an impact, we need swift action, and we also need to rally together as one community. Our strength is in numbers in more ways than one. If we can pledge $150,000 by December 1, 2019, we can save our ice. This year, 150 plus teams will participate in CSHL play alone. If each player can pledge as little as $5 a year, we can raise nearly $9000. If players from other programs contribute as well, our success increases exponentially.

We love our rink and hope all hockey families donate :)

Alice Noble is just one of the few unique destinations that Wooster touts over neighboring cities.  Help save our rink!

Thank you for doing this!! I will give more of necessary! The kids love that rink!

Fox 8 News story on Alice Noble can be seen here

My son has played there many times as a member of the Crusaders, Geauga and Kenston hockey. Very much luck to you!

This rink has been a second home to our family for the past 11 yrs. The rink has provided a place to develop our sons hockey skills, a place to skate and hang out with friends, employment and most of all a place to call home.

This arena is a unique opportunity for the Wooster and surrounding communities that should be protected and put to use in every way possible. It would be a shame to remove this recreational opportunity from the community youth and the families that cannot facilitate transporting there children nearly an hour to another ice facility. If this were a football field it wouldn't even be a question, lets protect the recreation, collegiate, and possibly even professional careers of our community and its youth.

This arena provides wonderful opportunities for our youth

The rink has given my family a lot of good memories and relationships we would have otherwise not had. I hope the ice culture will remain in Wooster.

The youth of today and tomorrow need this rink!

We love the ice rink! It is a wonderful asset to our community. Unique, family friendly and a safe place to have fun. Let us know if there’s anything else we can do.

You have the Cleveland Sharks support!

This rink is the reason I chose to the College of Wooster. I’d be heartbroken to see it go.

We intend to have our three oldest kids continue playing hockey (they just started learn to play) and will also be starting our daughter skating in the next year or so.

Bless you all and I hope we can keep the rink. My grandkids love it so much!!!

Thank you for the opportunity and the work of many to save youth hockey in Wooster!

I have grandsons who skate in Columbus and I would hate for them to lose their favorite activity!

My grandson has been a member of the Wooster Oilers for the past 4 years. This is a great hockey family and I would hate to see this family no longer be together
